Barton Originals

The Art of
Sue Barton

Hi!  My name is Sue Barton and I live with my family in a charming
small town north of Toronto, Ontario.

I have collected and loved dolls my whole life and started designing my own cloth doll patterns after my first daughter was born.  In the mid 90s, I discovered polymer clay and thought I was in nirvana!

I love the properties of this clay and am constantly discovering new
applications for it, however sculpting OOAKs is my joy,  and to not sound too hokey, it feeds my soul.

I'm drawn to anything that speaks to me of fantasy, whimsy or other worldly-ness.  Inspiration for a piece can come from a walk in the woods, a song, a photograph or an enchanting piece of
antique lace or fabric.

I love scouring flea markets and estate sales for unique items that I can use to embelish or accent my figures.  Walks in the woods often result in me coming home with pockets full of fungus and other found objects (which I of course treat for any insect hitchhikers before using! )

I love sculpting!  It is a very magical and rewarding experience starting with a blob of clay and watching it evolve and develop
into a small figure with a personality of it's own.
